Pre-Mobilisation & Practical Course 

This course provides the final practical assessment required to achieve full Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) competency.

Designed to follow completion of the MMO Foundation Course and relevant Regional Module (e.g. JNCC or Australian), this course assesses your ability to apply mitigation, observation, and reporting skills in a real-world operational environment.

Training is delivered in a marine setting (vessel-based where conditions allow), and includes pre-mobilisation presentation, practical observation exercises, data recording, and a final written report.

This course forms the final stage of the MMO training pathway and is required for full certification.
Participants must provide their own equipment. Certification is issued to the individual and is non-transferable.

This course represents the final stage of the MMO training pathway and is required for full operational competency.

This course provides the final practical and competency assessment required to achieve full Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) certification.

It is designed to assess your ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world operational setting, including observation, mitigation, reporting, and professional conduct.


Entry Requirements

This course can only be undertaken after successful completion of:

  • MMO Foundation Course
  • Relevant Regional Module (e.g. JNCC or Australian Course)

Alternatively, this course may be delivered as part of a fully facilitated training programme.

Course Delivery

Practical training is delivered in a realistic marine environment, with preference for vessel-based operations.

Where weather conditions do not permit offshore work, the course will be conducted from a coastal headland with appropriate visibility of the marine environment.

Equipment Requirements

You are required to provide your own equipment.
Failure to bring the required equipment will prevent course completion.
